  1. Lukla Airport

Soaring at an altitude of 2,860 m, there is a town in Khumbu area of Solukhumbu district, called Lukla. Lukla means a place with many goat and sheep but less are to be seen here. It is a popular destination in Nepal as lots of tourists have to arrive here to go for trekking and mountaineering in various mountains. That is why Lukla is considered as the Gateway to the Everest. There is a small airport called Lukla airport, or Tenzing-Hillary Airport. Because of the very short and steep airstrip and unpredictable weather condition, various accidents have occurred. This reason has given the Lukla, the most dangerous airport in the world. There are also a variety of shops and lodges catering to tourists. Tourist use this place as a destination to acclimatize their body and continuing their journey too.

 

  • 2. Namche Bazar

Namche Bazaar is well known as the gateway to High and Mighty Himalayas. This Sherpa settlement is a popular destination and tourist hub who are going for Everest Trek. From this place onward, various routes diverge and the tourist goes to a different destination after taking proper acclimatization. After some hours hike from Lukla, you can reach this bustling city. Even though Namche Bazaar is in a remote area and not accessible with the roadway, but the services and goods found here are as like of Thamel. It is considered as the 2nd Thamel of Nepal.   • 3.Sagarmatha National Park

Sagarmatha National Park is a first Natural World Heritage Site of Nepal which was established in the year 1976. Later, in the year 1979, it was recognized as the Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. With the motifs to conserve the forest, wildlife and cultural resources this national park keep on doing its work and later they started working in conservation of natural energy and search for alternative source of energy too. Almost all the landscape is full of desolate areas, huge rocks, steep hills, and less vegetation. Most of the vegetation is fir, rhododendron, birch, juniper trees and wildlife like Himalayan Thar, musk deer, ghoral, Himalayan black bear are found within the national park.

  • 4. Tangboche Monastry

The notable feature of this area is Tengboche Monastery, the largest gompa in Khumbu Region and 19 days long Mani Rimdu festival celebrated during 10th Lunar Month of Tibetan Calendar (October-November). Thousands of tourist visit this area every year and the people living here are engaged in tourism business from the time the Mt Everest was conquered by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgey Sherpa.

  • 5.Gorakhsheep

Gorakshep is a final stopover point for Everest Base Camp Trek. There is a small settlement of Sherpa people with lodging facilities. High-speed satellite internet facilities are also available for the guest who want to use on a certain charge. Most of the trekkers going for Everest Base Camp Trek have to take rest at Gorakshep and stay overnight because their trekking permit won’t allow them to stay overnight at the Base camp. So this is the hubbub center for the trekkers, sherpas and porters during high season.

Gorakshep is near to Kala Patthar which offers the best views of Mt Everest. Many trekkers start their hike to Kala Patthar to view the majestic view of Mt Everest along with other peaks like Lobuche, Nuptse, Changtse etc. This is the highest point trekkers can go with the trekking permit i.e. 5550m. From Gorakshep, trekkers can continue their trail to Gokyo and other destinations or return retracing the same path.

  • 6.Pheriche 

Pheriche is one of the popular tourist destinations in the Khumbu Region of Nepa. This village was primarily known for agriculture and animal husbandry. Later, with the introduction of tourism people got engaged in trekking and porter business. Fewer people grow potatoes and buckwheat and rear yaks for a living. This village is a popular stopover for acclimatization and resting ground. There are many lodges available to provide facilities for guests with modern amenities.

At Pheriche, there is a hospital established by Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) in the year 1973. Initially, it was a small aid post established with motives to prevent the death of Nepali and foreigner trekkers from Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). The well-trained doctors and nurse are stationed voluntarily from various country. This is opened twice a year during trekking season by volunteer doctors.

  • 7.Gokyo lake

Gokyo Lakes are oligotrophic lakes situated at an altitude of 4700m – 5000m in Khumbu Region of Nepal. There are altogether six lakes in the region which is the highest fresh water located in the world. Among all the lakes, Thonak Lake is the largest lake whereas Gokyo Cho is the main river which of which, Gokyo lies to the eastern shore. The other lakes are Gyazumpa Lake, Tanjung Cho, Ngojumpa Cho. The collected water at the lakes are mainly from the seepage of glacier lakes, among them, Ngozumpa glacier is the one.

The Gokyo Lakes are considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. During the festival, Janai Purnima the Hindu follower take the deep plunge at the lake and get blessed. They believe the Snake God resides at the bottom of the Lake and is sacred to all.  These lakes are linked to Vishnu and Shiva and believe that they have been preserving this place since ages.

  • 8. Kalapathar – EBC

Kalapatther’s summit is marked by prayer flags fluttering against brute air force. The summit offers the best view of Mt Everest, the world tallest mountain. The summit area of Everest cannot be seen from the base camp. So many trekkers take a time to climb the summit to get a view of Mt Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Changtse along with Khumbu glacier.

Khumjung is a mountain village of Everest Region in the northeast side of Kathmandu. It’s about 85 miles away from the Kathmandu. The village is situated at an altitude 3790 m under the protection of Mt Khumbila.

It is believed that the monastery in Khumjung has a scalp of Yeti, a mythical creature found in Himalayan Region.  With the entry fee to Monastery, anyone can enter inside and see the scalp kept inside the box. You can also go visit a sacred cave of Guru Rimpoche, which lies just above the village. Even though the village is in remote areas, due to the frequent visit of tourist the village is becoming lively and modern means of communication and various facilities.
