Kagbeni is an ancient city used as the salt trade route by Indian traders. Still this route is used to travel to Tibet. Kagbeni is roughly 10 km from Jomsom, the bustling city in Mustang. You and walk through the bank of Kaligandaki River from Jomsom or take 4WD to reach this beautiful village. To the north of this village, there is a counter for the tourist group and they have to show the special trekking permit ticket to enter Lo-Manthang, Upper Mustang, and the forbidden kingdom of Nepal. Due to the check post, Kagbeni is the known as Gateway to Upper Mustang.
The cobbled alley and the busy streets by traders and guests makes the city lively. During your free time, you can visit nearby monasteries and enjoy the moments. As you walk around the village, you will be awed with the house architecture, the unique wood carving at the door and the windows.
