Jiri

Jiri one the popular destination in Nepal at Everest Region. It lies at an altitude of 1,905m from the sea level. Before there was a flight to Lukla airport, Jiri was the trailhead to Everest Region trek and mountaineering was done through Jiri. The trek from Jiri to Lukla takes about 7 to 8 days. This is one of the major tourist hubs in Nepal. Tourist looking for longer days to explore Everest Region while acclimatizing their body with altitude. Only 5% of the total trekkers take the trek from Jiri to Everest Region because of its time is taken and difficulty level. About 95% takes a flight to Lukla and start their trek which reduces week-long trek. It’s the loss for the trekkers as they will miss the beautiful trekking trails, mountains village, unexplored culture and tradition and amazing natural landscape on the way.

If we look back at the history of the summit to Everest done by Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, they also took the same route to Everest and their trek started from Jiri. So, Jiri is considered as the Gateway to Everest. Enroute you can see the villages of Jirels and Sherpas people.
