Trip Overview
Mt. Makalu is the 5th highest mountain in the world with a soaring height of 8418 M above sea level. It lies in the Mahalangur Himalayan Range of Nepal just 19 Km south-east of Mt. Everest (8848 M). This is an isolated pyramid peak that also lies on the border between Nepal and China. Its four-sided sharp ridges have made this mountain very beautiful in fact it is a double peak. Makalu Expedition was first successfully climbed in 1955 by a French Team. It has Makalu Barun Valley at the base of it and this valley is entirely inside the Makalu Barun National Park.
Makalu Expedition is a challenging task as this seems a very beautiful but extremely challenging, and potentially dangerous mountain. So it needs plenty of time, strategy, leadership and technical abilities. It must need lots of mountaineering experience including any attempt of above 8000 M high peaks. You start our expedition from Tumlingtar, just above the Arun River to Makalu Base Camp at approximately 5200 meters. Our trail to Makalu Base Camp (4823m) is a steep slope with magnificent views of Makalu (8481m) to the north. Climbing it is really a challenging attempt and from a base camp that sits at the foot of the Chago Glacier, you will use 4 camps on the mountain, including camp 3 on the Makalu La at 7,400m and a high camp on the North Face at approximately 7,800m.
